Money Saving Challenges for 2017

Hello everyone!

So it's now 2017! Where has the time gone? To be honest I have absolutely no idea, however, we need to get our bum's moving and get ready for the upcoming year of frugalness and saving! Are you all with me?!

As a little bit of inspiration for you all, I thought I would put together three of my favourite "Money Saving Challenges" to give you an idea of fun and satisfying projects to help you save. It's often great maths practice for children too so you could get away with classifying it as an educational resource for sure.

Challenge 1

This is the "penny challenge."

Extremely simple, you just save 1p on day 1, 2p on day 2 and so on for every day of the year. If you manage it (or compensate somehow for missing days) you could end up saving up to £667.95 in a year or £671.61 in a leap year!

Super simple but you end up with a great saving at the end of the year for you to spoil yourself or family with!

(Note: Of course this can also be done in pounds (so day 1 save £1 etc.) or whatever other intervals you choose).

Challenge 2

This is "no-spend November."

Ok, so it's fair to say that November is a long way away but there's nothing to say you can't do this challenge in February etc. I think we're just obsessed with the idea of alliteration!

This challenge is basically where for a whole month you forbid yourself from spending any money apart from the essentials like food and bills (that's why I'd advise a month where you don't have birthdays etc.)

Ways to avoid spending is walking to work or school and taking packed lunch or snacks everywhere so you don't have to buy your sugar rush from a store etc. I guarantee you'll end up being more conscious about your money and will become more imaginative with ways to save. Perhaps you can keep it up! (Fingers crossed).

Challenge 3

This is "28 days, 28 bags decluttering challenge."

I think that the majority of decluttering or minimalism challenges will help you save money because you could offer unwanted objects as presents or donate them to a school fayre instead of a donation. If you don't save money, you would probably at least save money because you can sell your objects, especially things like DVDs and books. They prove very popular and there are loads of websites that buy them!

Here's a visual of the challenge for you (with thanks to Mommy Savers)

Hope you enjoyed this post and that you're ready for a successful frugal year! If you choose to do any challenge I would love to hear about it on my Twitter or Facebook, feel free to share your challenges too!

All the best,

The Frugal Teen x
