Frugal Cleaning Supplies

Hello everyone!

Today I am joined by Evie Horton, owner of a cleaning business in London. Today she will be telling us of frugal alternatives for cleaning supplies that save you money and clean just as well as store-bought items!

Enjoy!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is it worth spending an arm and a leg on the store-bought chemicals knowing you can prepare your own detergents at home?

In fact, you might just have all the supplies needed you just don't know of their cleaning power! Knowing these handy tips will not only save you a lot of money, but also will provide you with chemical-free cleaning solutions for your home.

Don't trust those bombastic advertisements trying to fool you with their "impressive" jargon! Although these home-made solutions might seem old-fashioned, you must get rid of that thought and just remind yourself of the benefits: save money and have a safer, cleaner home.

White vinegar

This salad dressing is sure to impress you with its cleaning powers!

It has three many functions:

- Deodorising function to get rid of different odours

- Break through any greasy stains including carpet stains (see here)

- Disinfecting anything from windows to mirrors without leaving streaks

When cleaning with vinegar, it's worth noting that it may smell at first but give it a few minutes and it'll soon be replaced with a fresh fragrance.

Essential oils

Essential oils are great if you can't handle the smell of the white vinegar, just add some drops to it and it'll smell great!

Furthermore, it deodorises as well as having cleansing power. For instance, tea tree oil has an antibacterial function.

Baking soda

This powder is used as an abrasive cleaning solution for counter tops, sinks, toilets, bathtub etc.

You simple sprinkle some on your stove, leave it overnight and wipe it off in the morning. You could call it a miracle no-trail grease eliminator!

Like vinegar, soda has deodorising power, however be aware that it is abrasive, so you need to be careful about the surfaces you apply it on, because you can scratch them easily. To avoid this make a thick paste by combining it with water. This will dissolve the hard particles of the soda, and you will avoid the risk of scratches.

Borax

Many of you might not know what this is but it's a white chemical-free powder. Not to be confused with Boric Acid, which is toxic.

With Borax you can:

- Disinfect

- Kill mould (most of the commercial products against mould contains great amount of Borax)

- Natural effective deodorizer

- Gets rid of insects

- Natural water softener (if you add Borax to the laundry it'll be more effective in how it washes)

Rubbing alcohol

This is great for clean windows, screens and mirrors, without even leaving a single streak.

It's often a major and much loved part in commercial cleaning products as it evaporates very easily in the air, which means it's great for cleaning mirror-like surfaces.

Believe it, or not these products can be used to make your home sparkling clean. Don't underestimate the power of nature, but learn how to use it in the utmost way!
