Go on holiday for less!
Packing and organising holidays can be an absolute nightmare; from choosing whether to take raincoats or flip flops to actual getting on your flight, this post is aimed to try and make it slightly easier, maybe even enjoyable! (Shock horror I know).
Here's some top travelling hacks you need to know to save money while travelling and hopefully make your life that tiny bit easier:
To make life easier:
- Use free sample make up bottles to hold toothpaste, creams or foundation etc:
This is perfect as it's guaranteed to be under 100ml (airport security max allowance) and it means that if it were to leak, you haven't wasted the whole bottle!
- By using buttons you can use the holes to hold your earrings:
To avoid stabbing or making holes in any clothes, you could even stick some blue tack on the end for extra safety if you fancied.
- Razor cuts can be the worse so make sure you protect it if you don't have a lid:
Don't get cut whilst rummaging in your bag (I've been there); make a lid for the razor by using a binder clip to cover it
- Great idea to hide money where nobody would think to look. Hiding money in an empty lipbalm case is also an idea.

- Unknown to many there are also useful apps that require no internet connection.
For example:
To save space:
- Rolling clothes instead of folding saves a lot more space

Or if you're feeling really brave, try this:
To save when booking:
- The sooner you book, the cheaper the flights so as much as we love spontaneous, try and book a bit in advance? ;)

- If you want to compare the price of flights, there are plenty of useful websites out there to help. I personally would recommend Skyscanner as it has a "search everywhere" option in case you're not fussy about where you want to fly from.
- Travelling can be cheaper to destinations such as Australia if you don't fly directly. If time is not of the essence, research stop-over flights; you might just end up saving a few hundred pounds!
-"If you're delayed by more than three hours or your flight's cancelled, under EU rule 261/2004 you are often entitled to between £90 and £420 in compensation"- check Money Saving Expert for more details.
- We've always heard that living with/like the locals is the best experience, so why not do so properly and use public transport as this will be a lot cheaper than hiring a car.
Never know- could be fun ;)
- If you do have to hire a car, then the same situation applies as with flights: the earlier you book the more you'll save. Many people don't realise that there are sites that compare quotes for this too, they just tend to go for "Eurocar" and voila, but don't ignore this vital piece of information. TravelSupermarket and CarRentals are the most popular sites.
To get freebies:
- Make use of free wifi on buses or in the airports.
- If there is no free wifi, don't freak out or cry because if you add "?.jpg" to the end of a URL, it allows you to access the Internet for free! (You're very welcome)

- If you're conscious about losing your luggage then at most airport ticket counters you can get luggage tags. Granted you're not jumping for joy but you won't regret it if you end up losing anything. They'll either be visible or you'll have to ask
- Along with tags, if you're lucky you might be able to get some "fragile" stickers; these aren't just needed for luggage containing glass etc. People often forget these stickers are needed if instruments are being transported too.
- Now you can get EHIC cards for free, if when googling this you arrive on a site that has a charging fee WARNING: these are unofficial and most probably a scam. Here's the official site.
Now you're all set for your next holiday, October half term perhaps?
Don't forget to eEnjoy it and stay frugal though ;)
