Wombling- turning paper into cash
Many of you might find the word wombling a rather humorous word or even bewildering, however, it is a word that might just alter your lifestyle once you learn about how it could save you hundreds a month simply by changing a daily habit.
NOTE: I will be talking about Asda receipts and their price match guarantee simply because they're the most commonly used and were the first store to have such a system, however, it can be done with other stores too.
What is wombling?
Wombling, is the process of turning discarded receipts into vouchers. Yup. That simple really.
How does it work?
It's very simple. Asda has a price match guarantee whereby if they are not 10% cheaper than Morrisons, Waitrose, Tesco or Sainsbury's, they will refund you the difference.
What role do receipts play?
It's through the receipts that you will see whether your shopping/the one on the receipt is 10% cheaper or not.
On all Asda receipts, there is a code starting with TC# above the barcode, which is needed for the price match (it doesn't matter if the whole receipt is ruined but that must be legible).
This code needs to be put into their website and once the prices are compared you will see whether you can get any money back.
How do I know if it's 10% cheaper?
If your shopping at Asda wasn't 10% cheaper, it'll say "Here's your voucher for £....." and it'll be available to print out. Make sure though that you have your original receipt with it otherwise it won't be accepted at checkouts.
What can the voucher be used against?
The receipt can be used anywhere in Asda against any products. You can also use several vouchers in one transaction resulting in lots of people getting their shopping for free!
When is a receipt eligible?
A receipt is eligible for APG (Asda price match guarantee) when there is a minimum of 8 different products and that the products are available in other stores e.g. not all 8 products can be Asda's own brand.
Is there proof of wombling being a success?
There is indeed lots of stories and pictures on Facebook and wombling groups of people finding receipts which have given vouchers of up to £30 or more! There is also a YouTuber called Stephen Auker (The Man with The Hat) who posts tips and advice and shows his wombling trips and successes.
This post is about a technique that not many people know about or use but it is a really good way of saving money and getting products for free! I hope this post has been clear enough and that people will start trying their luck with receipts.
