My best friend Johanna has tried for years to try and get me into spending makeup rather than just relying on freebies and samples. In an attempt to remember just some of the information she's shared with me, I urged her to write it down so I could share it with you all too!
As she knows full well my obsession with saving money and refusing to make big purchases, she has done her best to provide you with the best deals the makeup after has to offer, enjoy!

Hello my fellow beauty lovers, my name is Johanna and I am a self- confessed makeup addict!
I have a collection that is far too big for The Frugal Teen’s liking, although it does mean I have the knowledge to share various bargains that I have discovered over my 9 years of cosmetics obsession.
Foundations
L’Oreal Paris True Match The Foundation - £4.99
When it comes to foundation, L’Oreal, in my opinion, creates some of the best foundations on the high street. This product is medium coverage that is very buildable with one of the best colour ranges out there; matching about 98% of skin tones.
L’Oreal Paris Infallible Matte Foundation - £7.99
Although this is a little more expensive, I highly recommend this foundation if you can stretch your budget that little bit further. This foundation gives you a shine- free face that lasts me all day (however, I have yet to test its self-proclaimed ’24 hour’ staying power). If you have very dry skin, I would avoid this product and stick with the first option but apart from that, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth!
Concealer
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - £4.19
Despite what you must think about the (incredible) price, this has been my most-used concealer ever since I started wearing makeup! I could easily compare this concealer to higher end brands – Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Concealer for example. It gives very good coverage and works on hiding those blemishes and concealing those dark under eye circles.
Definitely my favourite; I cannot praise this corrector enough!
Primer
Maybelline Baby Skin Primer - £9.59
You may see the price of this and die a little inside, but good luck finding a good primer at a cheap price. I have tried plenty of cheaper primers and I find myself with a very uneven and un-smooth base for my foundation and concealer to sit on. This primer was supposedly a dupe for the famous Benefit the POREfessional and I can definitely see why.
Face Power
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder - £3.99
No matter how many powders I try, I find myself reaching for this one over and over again. At a very affordable price, this powder will keep your skin looking matte for ages! I do, admittedly, find myself touching up once or twice throughout the day, but I can definitely look past that.
Apply a light dusting of this with a powder brush and don’t worry about finding one that matches your skin tone, they do the perfect transparent shade!
Contouring
Contour/Highlight: Sleek MakeUp Face Contour Kit - £6.99
I don’t think combining two products in one is classed as cheating… I see it as being "frugal!" The pigmentation of this product is incredible for the price and is even better than some more pricey products! With the perfect contour colour to chisel outyour face and the highlighter to accentuate your cheekbones, this product is also very easy to use.
I find powders much easier to work with than cream products, which helps to make this the best face-sculpting palette.
Bronzer
The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder - £13.00
You’re probably wondering how this is classed as “cheap,” but a little goes a very long way with this very understated brand of cosmetics! Unlike a contour which shapes and defines the hollows of your face, a bronzerwill put that warmth back into your face, almost like you’ve been to the Maldives for 2 weeks (but please remember to blend it down your neck!)
This is admittedly the most expensive item in this post; however I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t believe it was worth the money. I have used it religiously for years and have only hit pan once!
Blusher
NYX Cosmetics Powder Blush - £4.95
It has to be said, I'm not a huge wearer of blusher. but it does put a natural bit of colour back into your face when it's been covered up with foundation.
Unlike the expensive NARS blushers, I find NYX to be just as good in quality. However because they are so good, it is easy to apply too much and look like you belong in the circus! Overall, they are a very affordable brand and are now more readily available in the UK.
